Catalonia

Catalonia (with the capital of Barcelona) is one of the most developed countries in Southern Europe. It rates just after the 4 leading EU countries in the DESI index, which measures the digitisation of the economy and the society. The Generalitat, which is the name of the Government of Catalonia since the Middle Ages, is responsible for providing a wide range of public services to ensure the welfare of its 7,5M citizens and the dynamism of its economy and society.

The Catalan Government’s experience with digital public services is the basis for a realistic approach for the use of AI in these services, and for the awareness of the importance of data governance to unleash the power of Big Data to improve the value of government activities. The Generalitat will contribute to DT4REGIONS from this viewpoint, helping to build a truly useful and usable platform for the digital transformation of governments.
